Understanding and managing emotions is crucial, especially for kids, teens, and adults who have experienced trauma. I have a strong background and a deep passion for working with neurodivergent adults, children, adolescents, and their families. I specialize in trauma-centered play therapy, children of divorce, and neurodivergent affirming therapy practices.
Trauma manifests differently in children and teenagers compared to adults. Often, young individuals lack the language to express what they are experiencing, which can lead to behavioral challenges, mood instability, sensory issues, impulsivity, and social difficulties. Teaching them to recognize and manage their emotions early on can help them navigate scary or stressful experiences.
Divorce is a situation that many families encounter, and it can leave children feeling voiceless. During our time together, we can use play as a tool to give your child a voice amidst the changing family dynamics. Trauma-centered play therapy allows kids and teens to process their experiences in a way that resonates with them—through play.
Moreover, trauma presents differently for the neurodivergent population than for the neurotypical. In our sessions, we will work together to identify and process the unique traumatic experiences that often accompany growing up in a neurotypical world. Recognizing your abilities as strengths while addressing the challenges that come with them is vital. In a neurotypical environment, you may have felt confined or pressured to fit a specific standard, which can result in trauma responses later in life. Neurodiversity-affirming therapy is designed to help process these emotions and highlight your strengths.
Whether you or your child need support processing traumatic experiences, making sense of what happened, managing strong emotions, processing traumatic experiences that often accompany growing up in a neurotypical world, processing family changes, or navigating social challenges, I am here to guide you and/or your child through the therapeutic journey. I understand that every person has unique needs, and I tailor my therapeutic approach to meet you or your child where you are. I utilize various therapeutic methods, including play therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), neurodiversity-affirming therapy (NAT), and parent coaching.
